Pesto Championship, Genoa 2014
Every two years Genoa organises The World Championship in pesto making. Those who compete in this event have all been winners in regional heats of pesto making around the world. The moment the World Championship is over, competing regions and cities around the world start preparing for the next one.
The regional heats are all organised in a similar manner, using the same ingredients of basil, garlic, olive oil, pine nuts, Italian cheese and salt. The same team of Genoese judges will travel to all of these competitions, bringing some very heavy suitcases with a set of pestles and mortars. It is normal that around 10 people will compete in the regional final. The winner will be invited to participate in the World Championship the following year. The next one will take place in the grand setting of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa on 29 March 2014. Our regional heat will take place on Thursday 24 October 2013.The venue for the regional final will be the prestigious Giant’s Causeway Centre
