The aim of this event is to increase the procurement of fresh, sustainable and locally produced food by the Health Service

Following on from a successful workshop last March, these meet the buyer evenings will focus on putting suppliers face to face with buyers

Historically these types of tenders have been awarded to businesses on the basis of supplying the whole region, Health and Social Care organisations are now in a position to consider awarding a number of smaller contracts for supply on a more localised basis.  This approach fits with the findings of research carried out under the RAFAEL programme, which identified that local food is best especially for the young, the elderly and those who are ill.

A number of specific contracts are coming up for tender shortly:

• Meat  (Pork, Lamb, Beef & Poultry)
• Chilled goods e.g. cheese & yoghurts
• Frozen foods
• Fresh prepared fruit and vegetables

In advance of these contracts being tendered, these events will provide an opportunity

• to gain an understanding of the scope of the contracts;

• to get an insight into the process involved in tendering for such contracts and;
• to meet key personnel involved in the procurement process
