Mount Stewart’s popular food event ‘Food Glorious Food’ will provide you with interesting and inspiring suggestions, new ideas and great tastes to delight your senses. With the support and participation from NI Good Food and Ards Tourism there will be something for everyone at the National Trust’s fun filled event for all the family.
During the weekend of 8th and 9th of October, Mount Stewart will be open from 10am until 5pm for the opportunity to see, feel, taste and smell a great range of locally produced products from jams and chutneys, and homemade cooking to real ale.
The action packed weekend will allow you to enjoy cookery demonstrations by local chefs, Gerry Faloona and Joe Walsh of Heaven’s Kitchen, Stuart Hawthorne of Molly Brown’s, Colin McKee of McKees Farm shop and Simon Shaw of Orange Tree Cookery School. Welsh television celebrity Sian Lloyd, weather girl and foodie extraordinaire, who is delighted to be visiting Northern Ireland, will compere and participate with Ulster chefs during this flagship event.
For baking enthusiasts we are hosting a ‘Cup Cake’ Challenge, with the opportunity to display your baking talents and perhaps win a prize in one of our three categories which includes: the Most Delicious, the Prettiest or the Most Unusual cup cake. And for the first time, you will be able to view an exhibition of some of the historic cookery utensils, items and objects that were used to create dishes for the Londonderry family over the centuries.
To add to the adventure within the prestigious grounds, gardens and mansion house of Mount Stewart you will have the opportunity to learn about food and food products from some of Northern Ireland’s allotment enthusiasts, gain advice and knowledge from our own gardening experts who look after and maintain a range of unusual and exotic specimens within the gardens. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about the wealth of wildlife and seafood delicacies that Strangford Lough supports and find out about the huge amount of work undertaken by National Trust staff and volunteers to protect and manage this internationally important marine site.
Adding to the atmosphere there will be live music and various children’s activities including seed planting, garden trails and craft making. This fantastic event is sure to provide you with the opportunity to create new and exciting ideas to enhance your culinary desires and help you offer new and interesting tastes for your family and friends. We are confident that you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to tasting delicious new products and experiencing new attitudes to food.
