The award winning Comber Farmers’ Market is inviting amateur bakers to produce their very best culinary creations for the Great Comber Cake off on the 1 November 2018.
Baking is a popular pastime and labour of love for people of all ages, demonstrated when the Cake Off competition at the market in 2017 attracted over 40 entries.
There will be two categories for 15 years plus and 14 years and under. The cakes will be judged by Belfast Telegraph food critic Joris Minne, Radio Ulster’s ‘Foodie’ Kim Lenaghan and Radio Ulster resident chef Paula McIntyre MBE. Joining these special guests will be Cake Off sponsor, Andrew Dunlop from Dunlop Homes.
Bakers are encouraged to use as many local ingredients as possible and when it comes to decoration, the sky’s the limit. Entrants can register at www.combermarket.co.uk or pick up a form at Comber Library.
The monthly artisan Comber Farmers’ Market has a delicious variety of the very best food from local producers with meat, dairy, baked goods, jams and chutneys, charcuterie, fruit and veg and much more. Local grown plants are also available.
Market Chairperson, Alderman Deborah Girvan, is delighted the competition has returned in 2018.
“Everyone loves a slice of cake, and the Great Comber Cake off gives amateur bakers of all ages a chance to have their delicious baking tried and tested by professional food critics, who I know will savour every bite. Of course at Comber Farmers’ Market every month we already have a top team of bakers who lay on a beautiful morning tea in St Marys Church hall, for those who love to eat cake rather than bake it!”
The market is in the grounds of St Marys Church beside Comber Square the first Thursday of every month from 9am to 1pm and is well worth a visit.
Car parking is available in nearby public car parks, at Parkway on Killinchy Street and the car park of 1st Comber Presbyterian on High Street.
