Belfast Restaurant Week is a citywide celebration of local cuisine that will take place from 6 – 13 October 2012.
This week long celebration is a fantastic opportunity for the city’s eateries to showcase their food, profile their chefs, take bookings and attract new customers.
About our local eateries
Belfast is home to a highly diverse range of eating out options, from high end dinning and award-winning takeaways, to homely cafes and fashionable bistros.
Our city also has some of the most dedicated and gifted chefs and food heroes, many with award-winning credentials, attracting national media attention and recognition.
Creative Family Dining Options Championing Local Produce
NITB and Food NI are challenging local chefs to create a Northern Ireland inspired ‘Signature Dish’ suitable for family dining which champions the use of local produce.
We are encouraging chefs to be creative! Think about the usual type of dishes which appear on kids menus and think about new alternatives – dishes which use local produce, are healthier or sound so good that the adults will want to order adult sized portions of them!
Dishes must use at least one or two main ingredients which are locally produced and are of good quality or the key elements of the dish should be based on ingredients which are locally produced and are of good quality.
The title of the dish must appropriately describe the provenance of the ingredients, for example, “Organic Short Horn Beef fillet reared on Lord Antrim’s Estate in the Glens of Antrim served with Causeway Cheese Mash and fresh seasonal greens from McKee’s Farm Shop” rather than “Fillet of beef served with mash and green veg”.

The dish may be a ‘one pot’ which can be served at the table and eaten by the whole family or could be a children’s specific dish.
Competition entries will be shortlisted to finalists, who will compete in a live ‘cook off’ event at Georges Market in the autumn. Chefs must be happy to discuss the provenance of their dish and be able to offer the dish in their restaurant.
