Almost fifty local food and drink companies are getting ready to celebrate the best of local produce in the Northern Ireland Good Food Pavilion at the Balmoral Show 2012. This year the food pavilion is even bigger and better than ever, with three cookery theatres, the Taste Adventure for children and a shop and drop area, all designed to demonstrate that our food is so good.

The quality of local producers in the NI Good Food Pavilion this year is unparalleled. Visitors can graze through the artisan area and sample the best of local produce; it really is a unique opportunity to meet the people who work to bring us the freshest and finest produce every day. From the farmers who tend their dairy herd to make the finest ice creams through to the chefs who serve the best local beef, pork and lamb to visitors to these shores.

This year there are three demonstration kitchens, the NITB signature dish kitchen, showcasing the cream of our hospitality Chef’s, with the likes of The Cuan and Lough Erne Resort cooking up a storm.  They will be accompanied by local food celebrity Paula McIntyre, the Ulster Pork and Bacon Forum kitchen with the one and only Sean Owens, and the Food Standards Agency Calorie Wise Kitchen featuring local chefs and accompanied by broadcaster and foodie Barbara Collins who will be working to help us to make healthy choices

John Best, Chairman of Food NI said  “It’s great to see so many producers coming to the Northern Ireland Good Food Pavilion this year from organic meat to cheese and chocolate to breads, the pavilion really illustrates the talent and dedication of our local food producers. This year Food NI has extended part of the Pavilion to meet extra demand from quality, local Artisan producers, such as Bruce’s Hill Farm Shop and Clandeboye Estate; this topped with the great demonstration kitchens, is a recipe for a great 3 days”.

A key feature of the pavilion is the children’s area and this year, for the second year, kids can take part in The Taste Adventure and The Milling Zone, which is an interactive exercise to connect children with all of their senses when eating. Michele Shirlow, Food NI Chief Executive commented ‘We understand how important it is for children to connect with the source of their food and the Taste Adventure is a really enjoyable way for kids to learn about Taste and provenance. This year, we have expanded the kid’s area to assist young people to appreciate that Northern Ireland is an important food producing region with a unique food culture.

The highlight of the pavilion will be the Cookery Theatres, where dedicated chefs will be cooking up delicious signature dishes from each region of Northern Ireland throughout the three days. Make sure you get a seat early! The Chef Timetable will be posted on the Food NI Facebook page, and on our website before the Show!
